Wairau is the largest family run Estate in Marlborough. The vineyards were established in 1978 by Phil and Chris Rose who have been described as ‘ferociously hard workers.’ The Rose’s were very much pioneers of viticulture in the district in the seventies and had to fight hard to obtain a permit to plant vines at Rapaura, against a council that was ‘staunchly opposed’ to the idea. My, how things have changed – the sheep have been moved out and the harvesters moved in!A magnificent example Bright water like colour with green hue. Superb, lifted nose of gooseberry and tropical fruit followed by a touch of unripe passionfruit. Mouthfilling palate, with a layer of unripe nectarine followed by gooseberry, passionfruit, mango and tropical fruit. Clean acid finish. Long aftertaste of unripe nectarine and gooseberry.
Cellar 2-3 years (2008-2009)
