Named as a tribute to John “The Gaffer” Riggs (1814-1902), the great-great-great grandfather of winemaker Ben Riggs, this McLaren Vale Shiraz was made to acknowledge 150 years of the Riggs family’s rich farming heritage in South Australia.

McLaren Vale was blessed with yet another outstanding vintage in 2005.  The wines display an abundance of ripe fruit flavours whilst at the same time showing a sense of elegance.

Totally opaque black crimson colour with black crimson hue. Classic McLaren Vale ripe fruit nose with top notes of ripe blackberry, plum and vanilla followed by liquorice and spice end notes. The palate is ‘joosy’, exactly what one expects – Abundant flavours of blackberry, liquorice and vanilla appear over a black pepper background. Fine grained tannins with excellent balance. Very long aftertaste of liquorice and black pepper.
Cellar 3-4 years (2009-2010)
