Barrel Sample tasted July 2006: An outstanding follow on to the 2004. The colour is opaque black crimson colour with black crimson hue, showing excellent cling to the glass walls. Superb nose of violets, blood plum and vanilla followed by spice and a hint of liquorice. The palate delivers the expected ‘joosy’ qualities that have come to be expected from a Ben Riggs wine. Flavours of vanilla, blackberry, spice and black pepper supported by fine, dry tannins and a very long aftertaste.

Retasted, 11/12/2006: Another top red from Ben Riggs. Opaque black crimson colour with black crimson hue. Perfumed nose – vanilla, spice and violet top notes followed by a hint of blackberry and chocolate. The palate flavours are mouthfilling – with layers of blackcurrant, cassis and violet infusions, followed by spice, cherry and white pepper. Full bodied – powerful flavour profile, yet retaining a sense of elegance. Velvet smooth tannins – perfect balance. Very long aftertaste of spice and blackberry.
