Matured for over 2 years in new American and Baltic oak barrels the wines colour is holding up well displaying an impenetrable inky black core with a deep dark red black hue. Elevated scents of liquorice, blackberries and dark plum overlay vanillin oak, subtle spicy dark chocolate and confectionary. Rich and full with a viscous mouthfeel that’s bordering on decadent, the palate boasts plush flavour profile of liquorice, ripe black cherries and blackberries infused with spicy vanillin oak followed by a peppery finish. Lavishly textured with velvet smooth tannins. Long powerful conclusion of liquorice, aniseed, black cherries, blackberries, spicy vanillin oak and pepper. Will continue to drink well over the next 5-6 years.
Alc 16%
Other Reviews….
Deep garnet in color, the 2005 Block 6 Shiraz exudes beguiling notes of warm black cherries, raspberry preserves and Chinese dried plums with hints of fruit cake, salami, mocha and licorice. Very big, full-bodied and rich, the palate is very spicy, densely laden with dried fruits and savory flavors and structured by medium-firm grainy tannins through the long finish. Mature now, it should cellar to 2024+.
