Camelback wines are produced from two of Victoria’s top vineyard areas, Sunbury and Heathcote. The wines were packaged for the export market, however, after several years of financial losses, the owners of Camelback wines have decided to exit the export market and focus on the Australian wine market.

This may come as a bit of a surprise to some wine enthusiasts, given the enormous press that Australian wines have enjoyed internationally. The hard facts are that exporting wine is a very costly affair and can only be justified as a long term investment, as the payback times can be quite prolonged. Attending trade shows, sending samples, visiting potential agents, entertaining agents, printing brochures and complying with the multiplicity of regulations by the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation as well as those of the importing country can be a financially ruinous affair.

Some small producers take a different position, disregarding the financial side of the balance sheet, and treating export markets as tax deductible trips to enhance a chosen lifestyle.

As a result, the remaining stocks of the Camelback wines have become available for sale in Australia at rock bottom prices. This is a one off offer which is applicable only whilst stocks last.

A well made clean dry white. Bright pale straw colour with water like hue. Delicate top note of ripe gooseberry and tropical fruit. The palate has good weight, with flavours of tropical fruit and ripe gooseberry, followed by a touch of unripe gooseberry. Clean finish.Drink (2007)Alc/Vol: 13.0%
