Benriach has released Batch 14 of its annual single cask bottlings, all produced during a three-year period shortly after the distillery was reopened by former owner, Billy Walker in 2003. Now operating under the Kentucky-based ownership of Brown-Forman, this year's collection is smaller, as are the age statements ( the youngest is 9 years old and the oldest 12) - but that also means they're more accessible. The complete outturn includes 7 whiskies, 5 peated and 2 unpeated single malts, each of which have been fully matured in a single cask - first fill Oloroso sherry butts, port pipes, a first fill virgin oak cask, a first fill marsala hogshead and a Pedro Ximenez sherry puncheon. No cask finishes in this batch. With prices reflecting their age, it's not surprisingly these sold out fast in Europe after their official release in August 2017. All whiskies in Batch 14 are non-chill-filtered, individually hand-numbered and bottled at natural colour. We have three only on offer.

This is a peated malt, distilled in 2005 and matured in cask #2679 (first-fill Port pipe) for 12 years old before being bottled at natural strength. 53.1% alc./Vol. Extremely limited stocks.

Other reviews... The key here is integration and balance. The cask is supporting, not dominating, the peat playing an accompanying role. - scotchwhisky.com
