The Woodstock history is rather unusual in that Doug Collett, its founder, was a fighter pilot serving with the RAAF and the RAF in North Africa, Syria, Palestine and Italy. As a reconnaissance and fighter pilot, he observed the vast vineyards of Europe and naturally developed an interest in the subject – hopefully not dropping any bombs onto vineyards! After the war he studied Oenology at Roseworthy, and by 1974 made his first wine. Today his son Scott, together with Ben Glaetzer are responsible for the winemaking.

A magnificent wine, with Ben Glaetzer’s signature style all over it.

Opaque black, crimson, purple colour with purple hue. Superb nose, wonderfully refined, lifted top note of vanilla, confectionary, liquorice allsorts, ripe plum and blackberry. The palate is filled with ripe mouthfilling Shiraz – with a generosity of flavour that is typical of great McLaren Vale Shiraz. Explosive palate flavours of vanilla, spice, black pepper, ripe plum and liquorice. Outstanding length, blossoming right through to the back palate. Perfect balance. Very long aftertaste of confectionary, spice and black pepper.
Cellar 4-5 years (2010-2011)
Alc/Vol: 14.5%
