The origins of Turkey Flat Vineyard date back to 1843 when Salesian refugee, Jonathan Fiedler, planted Shiraz vines on the rich alluvial soils adjacent to Bethany Creek. The original settlers named the property Turkey Flat after the large flocks of native bush turkeys in the area. The Schulz family purchased the property in 1865, continuing to run the vineyard as well as developing a successful butchers business. Today the wines are made from four individual vineyard estates, with the Cabernet Sauvignon being grown on the banks of Bethany Creek.
A magnificent Barossa Cabernet.
Opaque black, purple colour with good cling to the wall of the glass. Superb lifted nose, with violet top note, followed by cassis, spice and ripe plum. Mouthfilling palate. Flavours of cedar, spice, blackcurrant and violet infusions – rich, ripe and voluptuous. Excellent length and depth. Fine grained tannins. Very long aftertaste of cassis, plum and spice.
Cellar 3-4 years (2009-2010)
The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon’s deep ruby/purple hue is accompanied by superb aromas of cassis, black cherries, cedar, and spice box. It should drink well for a decade.
