ANDREW PIRIE'S name is synonymous with the Tasmanian wine industry. Having sold out of Pipers Brook, Andrew is currently the winemaker at Rosevears and has also launched his own new wine - Pirie South. Andrew comments, "My aim is to make this your favourite everyday of the week wine. It should be light and fresh but with enough bite to be taken seriously." The Pinot is pure Pinot, with no oak maturation and made from fruit grown in the Tamar Valley.
A well made youthful, fruit filled Pinot. Translucent mauve purple colour, with youthful mauve, purple hue. The nose is appealing, with aroma of freshly crushed liquorice followed by strawberry and spice. The palate has good fruit, with flavours of cherry and strawberry. Soft tannins. Long cherry and strawberry aftertaste.
