Situated in close proximity to the Tatiarra vineyard and grown on the same Cambrian soil derived from rocks formed 500 million years ago, this was always a wine that was going to need a few years in the bottle to blossom. Heathcote Cabernet tends to be more masculine than Cabernets grown in other parts of Australia, with an acid structure that is reminiscent of top Yarra Valley Cabernets from a warm year. We have tasted it several times over the last few years and it’s really only now starting to come into it’s own. The tannins have become more integrated and the wine delivers a powerhouse of flavour that defies it’s modest price tag. As fortune has it (for the consumer) the vineyard has lost patience and the decision has been made to clear the remaining stocks.

“At $19.99 this Heathcote Cabernet was excellent value, at $14.99 it’s an absolute steal”

Opaque black crimson colour with black purple hue. This Cabernet is still an infant. Top notes of blackcurrant and cedar, followed by liquorice, spice and just a hint of truffle and leather. On the palate, flavours of blackcurrant are overlaid with chocolate, spice and mocha. Fine grained slightly chalky tannins which are integrating well. Long aftertaste of blackcurrant, cedar and mocha. A perfect match for a thick, aged rib eye steak.
Cellar 4-5 years (2011-2012)
Alc/Vol: 14.5%

First Tasted, November 2006: Totally opaque black purple colour. Perfumed nose of blackcurrant and cedar followed by cassis and violets. The palate is opulent and delivers layers of flavour. Spice, blackcurrant, black pepper and liquorice are overlaid by a touch of mint and liquorice allsorts. Fine grained tannins, excellent length and depth. Very long aftertaste of liquorice allsorts, spice, cedar and blackcurrant, with white pepper persisting.
Cellar 3-4 years (2009-2010)
