The Mount Camel Ridge vineyard was established in 1999 by Ian Langford and his wife Gwenda.  The couple chose a site 17km north on the eastern slopes of Mount Camel – in fact they share a common fence line with Mario Marson of Vinea Marson.  The soil profile is varied, with patches of Cambrian Earth, pockets of red and black clay, till wash and rock.  The vineyard is planted with 45% Shiraz, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, with the balance consisting of Viognier, Petit Verdot and Mourvedre.

Historically, the property was a sheep farm and upon taking possession of the property the Langfords commenced a programme of improving soil structure.  Chicken manure is spread along the rows ever 3 year, seaweed fertilizer is applied annually.  All prunings are mulched in the rows. The vineyard is dry farmed, with yields averaging 1.5 tonnes per acre.

The Cabernet is medium bodied – deep crimson colour with crimson mauve hue.  Perfumed nose of violet, blackcurrant and spice.  The palate is relatively light, with flavours of stewed plum and stewed fruit emerging.  Fine, dry and chalky tannins persist with relatively high acidity.  The palate is relatively short, lacking length and depth.
