The Mildara Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon was one of Australia’s great wines in the early 60’s & 70’s. The 1963 Peppermint Paddy, as it was called, was one of the wine industries benchmark wines. Mildara almost dissappeared during the financial crisis of the 70’s but today there is a concerted effort to revive this vinous legacy. The 2004 release is probably the wine that will do it.

Opaque black crimson colour with black purple hue. Violet top note followed by blackcurrant, spice, truffle and a touch of mint. The palate is refined yet delivers superb ripe blackcurrant fruit flavour. Spice and whitepepper layers are evident with a touch of tobacco on the back palate. Fine grained tannins, perfect balance. Long aftertaste of tobacco, cassis and spice.
