The Koltz story begins in 1995, when winemaker Mark Day and Anna Koltunov made their first wine from grapes sourced from the Bottin Vineyard in McLaren Vale. Mark has had extensive winemaking experience, being winemaker at Maxwell and Wirra Wirra in McLaren Vale. Not content with local experience, Mark has also consulted in Italy and France for the last 6 vintages. Winemaking is traditional. Fermentation takes place in open vats, basket pressed and then transferred to oak. The wines are generous in style and reflect Mark's experience both in Australia and overseas. He believes that “Wines should be complex, but a pleasure to drink at any stage of their evolution”.

Very deep, almost opaque black crimson colour with black crimson hue showing excellent cling to the glass. Lifted nose of plum and spice followed by violet and liquorice allsorts, delivering an excellent varietal sniff. The palate has weight, together with loads of spice, blackberry and black pepper flavours over a vanilla and liquorice background. Fine grained tannins, excellent balance. Very long aftertaste of blackberry, spice and vanilla.
Cellar 3-4 years (2009-2010)
Alc/Vol: 14.5%
