This is another sensational effort from Damien Tscharke.

The Distinction is Glaymond’s flagship wine and is a selection of the top one or two barrels from the vintage. Produced from vines planted in 1964 with yields around 1.75 tonnes per acre, the wine is matured for 24 months in 300 litre hogsheads, of which 50% is new French oak and 50% is 2-year old American oak.

Expensive – but worth every cent! A magnificent wine.

Totally opaque black purple colour with black purple hue and very strong paint like cling. Superb lifted nose of violets, confectionary, liquorice, ripe blackberry and plum, showing strong varietal character. Explosive palate – loaded with ripe fruit flavours and displaying that very rare quality of a double flavour wave – just as one becomes amazed with the power of the first wave, the second moves in. Concentrated liquorice, blackberry, plum, black pepper and spice. Perfect balance – the layers continue well into the aftertaste.
