Tempranillo is a Spanish red grape variety prone to high vigour and large crops. The Tempranillo at Gemtree is planted in a soil type that naturally restricts root and water penetration, thus having a positive effect on the vigorous nature of this variety.

An outstanding example of Tempranillo, harvested at 3 tonnes per acre with a total production of 500 dozen.  Very deep, almost opaque black crimson colour with black crimson hue.  Appealing nose, with perfumed lift of violets, raspberry and blackcurrant.  The palate is rich and joosy - reflective of the great vintage of 2004.  Flavours of plum and raspberry emerge followed by a touch of liquorice allsorts.  Excellent length and persistence.  Fine grained tannins.  Long aftertaste of plum, raspberry and liquorice.
