Bannockburn Vineyards were established by Stuart Hooper in 1974 with the planting of a 3 hectare block of Shiraz vines near the township of Bannockburn, 25 kilometres north of Geelong. Today Bannockburn vineyards are widely regarded as one of Australia’s leading cool climate producers specialising in Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The 2004 Shiraz was sourced from the 20 year ‘Old Winery’ vineyard and the 35 year ‘Old Range’ vineyard and matured in French oak (one third new) for a period of 18 months. During final blending a stricter selection process, placing greater emphasis on overall quality, resulted in close to 50% of the barrels being declassified to the second label. Winemaker Michael Glover believes the 2004 Shiraz to be one of the very best produced at Bannockburn.

A superb Shiraz.

Bright crimson colour with crimson mauve hue. Perfumed top note of violets, spice, plum pudding and blackberry jam, with a hint of dried apricot. The palate delivers excellent ripe fruit flavours of blackberry jam, spice and exotic plum pudding. An excellent experience of different flavours without the body weight. Fine grained tannins, perfect balance, very long aftertaste continuing to express the exotic character of the wine.
