- Closure: Cork
Semi translucent crimson colour with crimson hue. Aroma of cloves, rhubarb, plum, strawberry and cherry, with the clove spice component being quite dominant. The palate has good weight and a moderate power wave. Flavours of black cherry, spice, rhubarb and liquorice emerge. Velvet tannins, excellent balance, followed by a very long rhubarb, cherry and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 3-4 years (2008-2009)
First tasted, September 2004:
The Somerbury Estate vineyard was established by the FREWER family in 1997. Bright crimson mauve colour with deepened mauve hue: Medium body. The nose reveals impressive varietal character. Notes of spice, strawberry jam and cloves. The palate has good weight and depth, with flavours of spice and strawberry followed by clove back palate. Moderate power wave. The wine will gain complexity with further aging. Aftertaste of cloves, black cherry and spice.
