The legend of Seppelt began 150 years ago at Seppeltsfield in the Barossa Valley. The founder, Joseph Seppelt and his eldest son Benno, established a continuing tradition of making the best wines from Australia's leading viticultural regions. The wine is named Benno Bendigo Shiraz in honour of Benno Seppelt's belief in Victoria as a wine growing region. This is the first release of the Bennno Shiraz, the Seppelt winemakers were so excited about the quality of the 2003 Bendigo shiraz that it was decided to release it as a single region wine, to sit alongside the Seppelt St. Peters Shiraz.

This wine was matured for 18 months in French oak barriques, 30% of which were new with the remainder one, two and three years old. The colour is fantastic – saturated black purple colour with black purple hue. The nose is classic ‘Heathcote’ with strong notes of liquorice, vanilla, violet, blackberry and blood plum emerging – a superb sniff! Mouthfilling palate, with excellent length and depth. Flavours of spice, liquorice and black pepper overlaid with a hint of cedar. Fine grained tannins. Blood plum and black pepper re-emerge on the aftertaste.
