A classic St Henri, displaying balanced ripe elegant fruit flavours. Created in the early 1950’s, Penfolds St. Henri differs to most other iconic Australian Shiraz in that no new oak is utilized in it’s maturation. To emphasis the primary fruit flavours it is matured in old, large 1460 litre vats for 15 months that allow the wine to develop, but impart little or no oak character. Occasionally, some Cabernet is blended in to add structure, although 2003 vintage is produced from 100% shiraz.

Very deep crimson colour with deep crimson hue. Superb nose with lifted leather top note, followed by blackberry, spice and a hint of liquorice. On the palate, flavours of plum, blackberry and spice emerge – showing an elegance of style without the interference of oak. Fine dry, slightly chalky tannins, excellent balance. Long aftertaste of spice and plum.
