Milvine Estate is a tiny Heathcote producer of Shiraz. The 2003 Vintage was limited to 275 dozen. There is 2.3ha of vineyard which are planted with Shiraz clone PT23. The owners, Jo and Graeme Millard have in the past sold their fruit to Heathcote Winery, and so it comes as no surprise to learn that Jono Mephaw, Heathcote Winery’s winemaker, is involved with the wine.
Opaque black crimson colour with black mauve hue. The nose is impressive, with smoky oak, plum, blackberry, vanilla and black pepper aroma. The palate has Classic Heathcote structure with flavours of spice, white and black pepper over layers of coffee, mocha, vanilla, blackberry and liquorice. There is plenty of concentrated flavours supported by very fine dry tannins, but perfectly balanced. Very long aftertaste of vanilla, black pepper, coffee, mocha and dark chocolate.
Cellar 5-8 years (2009-2012)
Alc/Vol: 15%
