2003 Kaesler The Bogan Shiraz

Barossa Valley, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
$69. 99
Bottle
$839.88 Dozen
Closure: Cork

The Bogan is the only Kaesler Shiraz to be produced with the use of American oak, the other Kaesler Shiraz’ are all made using French oak. Matured in 100% new Pennsylvanian American oak, with a medium to heavy toast. Yields for the 2003 vintage were down by 40% so unfortunately supplies of the 2003 Bogan Shiraz are extremely limited. The good news is that winemaker Reid Bosward has purchased two additional old vine shiraz vineyards (both previously used for the production of Yalumba’s Octavius), so quantities for the 2004 vintage should be up.
This wine is a big blockbuster – Totally opaque black purple crimson colour, with paint like cling to the glass. Superb nose, of ripe blood plums, violets, blackberry and spice, providing a wonderful perfumed sniff. The palate is an explosion of mouthfilling blackberries, plum, violets and vanilla flavours – a total concentrate. Fine grained tannins. Aftertaste of plum, blackberry and vanilla.
Cellar 4-5 years (2009-2010)
Alc/Vol: 15.5%

Other Reviews...
The 2003 Shiraz The Bogan is an exuberant, flamboyantly-styled Shiraz boasting an opaque ruby/purple color, wonderful peppery, blackberry, and currant fruit, and hints of charcoal as well as spice box. This full, opulent offering was fashioned from a vineyard planted in 1899, 1961, 1985, and 1990.
