2002 R.L. Buller & Son Calliope Durif

This wine takes one back to ones childhood, and the local milk bar, where one could buy a solid liquorice bar, called a Choo Choo bar. This wine is the vinous version of that same experience.
Totally opaque black purple colour, with black purple hue. The nose has strong notes of dark chocolate, raisin cake, confectionary and marzipan which creates a delightful twist. Totally mouth filling palate, with flavours of raisin cake, Choo Choo Bar and liquorice allsorts. Very ripe palate flavours but by no means porty, with strong spicy back palate. Fine, dry slightly chalky tannins, well balanced, followed by a long cherry, Choo Choo Bar, raspberry and liquorice aftertaste.
Cellar: 4-5 years (2008-2009)
