Port Phillip Estate was established in 1987 on a property of sixty acres in Red Hill in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula. Viticulturalist Doug Wood, together with owners Dianne and Giorgio Gjergja currently maintain the vineyard. Port Phillip Estate’s minimalist “Blue Peter” label (A blue flag pierced with white) represents the letter 'P' in the international code of signals and symbolises the maritime influences that pervade the estate.

This wine was produced from 15 year old vines with 10% whole bunch and 50% whole berry, fermented in open stainless steel fermenters, hand plunged and left on skins for about 10 days. The wine went through 100% malolactic fermentation and was matured for 12 months in French oak (40% new). An impressive Pinot with good cellaring potential. Very deep crimson colour with crimson hue. Lifted nose of smoky oak, strawberry, cherry, spice and a touch of stalk as an endnote. The palate has impressive weight and mouth feel with a very good power wave. Flavours of spice, cherry, toasted oak and strawberry emerge. Good acidity with a touch of stalk reappearing. Very long spicy strawberry aftertaste. A top example of Australian Pinot Noir.
