The 2002 Vintage was the smallest and coolest on record, but what a wonderful result as a consequence! This is one of Petaluma’s Great Chardonnays and achieves Croser’s ambition of making a White Burgundy in Australia! Brilliant straw colour with pale straw hue. Superb complex nose, with notes of hazelnut, cashews, white peach and lightly toasted oak. The palate is where the power of this wine emerges from. A superb combination of flavours that fill every corner of the mouth and mesh seamlessly to produce an exceptional Chardonnay experience. The component parts are hard to identify individually – certainly the hazelnut, almond, cashew and yeast lees characteristics are evident together with white peach and fig yet their appreciation is as a whole. The wine has exceptional length and persistence. Perfectly balanced, with exceptionally long aftertaste of yeast lees, hazelnut and cashew. A subtle essay in refinement.
