A wine with monumental structure

Print Shiraz is Mitchelton's flagship wine, crafted by veteran winemaker DON LEWIS. 2002 was the fifth season in succession that Mitchelton has recieved below average rainfall which combined with a prolonged ripening period. The fruit for the Print Shiraz is sourced from the oldest vines in the Mitchelton Vineyard which are grown under difficult conditions ensuring natural devigouration creating small concentrated berries. The wine is produced using static fermentation techniques with heading down boards. Extended skin contact for twenty days has resulted in a relatively soft tannin structure.

A wine of great concentration with monumental structure. Totally opaque black purple crimson colour. Lifted nose of spice, dark chocolate, violets, vanilla and plum. The palate has great weight but also carries a structure to ensure good cellaring potential. Flavours of blackberry, vanilla, liquorice allsorts and confectionary are evident. Fine dry, powdery tannins.

Other Reviews...
Deep red-purple; a powerful wine, the black fruits with considerable texture and structure, supported by savoury tannins.
