2002 Clarendon Hills Liandra Vineyard Syrah (Shiraz)

Blewitt Springs, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
$59. 99
Bottle
$719.88 Dozen
Cellar: 15 - 20 Years (2018-2023)
ABV: 14.8%
Closure: Cork

The 2002 Liandra Syrah was matured in 70% new oak and 30% one year old Nevers and Allier oak barriques. The 2002 vintage being cooler, with longer ripening period produced a more elegant style wine, with an emphasis on white pepper characteristics rather than the classic Australian blackpepper quality. With all the 2002 wines Bratasiuk is chasing purity of flavour rather than having the wine overlaid by oak.

Tasting Note: Totally opaque black purple colour. Superb nose with intense aroma of blackberry juice, spice, ripe blood plum, violet and cassis. The palate flavours are explosive, with counterpoints of liquorice and spice, overlaid by mocca, cocoa and intense white pepper which runs all the way into an exceptionally long aftertaste.
Cellar 15-20 years (2018-2023)
Alc/Vol: 14.8%

Robert Parker's Review
The beautiful 2002 Syrah Liandra Vineyard exhibits aromas of pepper, black fruits, acacia flowers, and subtle new oak. Full-bodied with an expansive mid-palate in addition to a gorgeously long finish, it is an elegant yet well-endowed Syrah to drink over the next 10-15 years.
