Chard Farm is located in Central Otago, New Zealand and has established a reputation as a serious wine producer. The owners of Chard Farm are Rob Hay and Gerda Schumann. Rob and his brother Greg established the vineyard in 1987 after studying winemaking in Germany and working for Babich. The River Run Pinot fruit is sourced from vineyards on the South side of the Kawarau River, Gibbston, Chard Farm Home Block and Nelson.
Bright crimson mauve colour, medium body. The nose is perfumed with notes of violets, strawberry, strawberry jam and mixed spices emerging. Moderate palate length with flavours of spice and strawberry followed by a touch of rhubarb and California Poppy. Fine grained soft tannins, followed by a very long aftertaste of spice, strawberry and liquorice.
