Each Yalumba Signature is named in honour of a long term Yalumba employee, the 2001 vintage being dedicated to Geoffrey R. Linton, the Yalumba technical manager. The 2001 Yalumba Signature was matured for 20 months in a combination of 35% new French and 21% new American hogsheads, 5% new American barriques, 11% one year old French hogsheads with the balance 2 year old American hogsheads and octaves.
Made from a blend of 57% Cabernet and 43% Shiraz this is a beautifully structured ‘Signature.’ Very deep crimson black colour with deep crimson hue. The nose is impressive – lifted violet top notes, followed by vanilla and blackcurrant. The tannin structure of this wine is such that it will ensure good cellaring. Flavours of vanilla, plum and blackcurrant are overlaid with spice and plum. The tannins are fine grained and very persistent. Excellent oak balance. Aftertaste of cedar, blackcurrant and vanilla.
Cellar 5-8 years (2010-2013)
Alc/Vol: 14.5%

Other Reviews….
The dense purple-colored 2001 Shiraz/Cabernet The Signature (60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Shiraz) offers sweet aromas and flavors of blackberries, earth, cassis, and vanilla. The Signature offering spends 22 months in both new and used French and American oak. With considerable power, flavor intensity, and structure, the big, serious 2001 should hit its prime in 2-3 years, and last for two decades.
