- Closure: Cork
PAUL SCORPO and his family have planted a small vineyard at Merricks North on the Mornington Peninsula. The vines were planted between 10-100 metres above sea level, on slopes that face NNE – this is a distinct advantage in a cold climate. 2.25 ha is planted with Pinot Noir, 1.5ha to Chardonnay, 0.75ha to Pinot Gris 0.5ha to Shiraz. The Chardonnay is generous and delivers the sort of flavour profile that make the tiny operation a great plus for the Australian wine industry. A refined Chardonnay with excellent and quite subtle oak integration. Bright straw colour with gold hue. Aroma of melon, hazelnut, white peach and spice with subtle barrel ferment character emerging. The palate has weight and a creamy texture that counterpoints flavours of hazelnut, cashew and biscuit over a spicy oak and lees background. Excellent length and persistence. Very long aftertaste of cashews, yeast lees, spice and biscuits.
Cellar 2-3 years (2006-2007)
