This wine clearly demonstrates winemaker Colin Best’s passion for French viticulture and winemaking techniques. The vineyard is close planted producing very low yields and comprises of a number of Pinot clones in order to attain maximum flavour complexity. The 2001 Leabrook Estate Pinot Noir has better colour than the 2000 but at this stage the nose is more subdued. Deep crimson colour. Medium body. The nose displays aroma of cherry, spice and strawberry. The palate is impressive with mouthfilling flavours of cherry, stalk and liquorice. Warm back palate with some stalky flavours persisting. Excellent length and depth. Fine grained tannins followed by a long aftertaste of cherry and spice.
