Merlot has enjoyed a mixed reception in the popularity stakes – rising on a big high several years ago as the hottest red grape variety to its present, more humble demand. The reason for the osculation in popularity can be attributed due to the lack of a precise style – and this is in part due to the peculiar growing conditions that the variety enjoys in order to get the best expression of flavour from it.
86% of this wine was grown in the Adelaide Hills, 10% in the Barossa and 4% Cabernet was added to the blend in order to provide both structure and complexity.

Very deep crimson colour with deep crimson hue. The nose is refined, with a lifted perfume like sniff of spice, mulberry, violets and cinnamon. The palate is sophisticated with flavours of white pepper emerging in the background over subtle cherry, mulberry and cinnamon flavours. There is complexity of flavour which helps to define the style. Perfect balance. Long aftertaste of cherry, spice, mulberry and cinnamon flavours. A benchmark of the style.
