2001 Gapsted Ballerina Canopy Durif

A classic North East Victorian Durif, with the tannic backbone and colour that have made the varietal popular with lovers of “big, smack in your mouth” reds.
A total saturation of colour with black purple hue. Aroma of violets, liquorice all sorts and vanilla. Powerful, full bodied, monumental structure. Flavours of very ripe plum and black cherry, followed by very fine powdery, very dry and overwhelming tannins. Their pronounced presence is a necessary counterpoint to the equally concentrated fruit structure. There is a touch of inkiness over the super ripe plum flavour, with the tannins remaining remarkably dry and persistent on the aftertaste.
