2001 Arakoon Reserve Shiraz

Another impressive red from Arakoon, made from a combination of 60 year old and young vines grown at Willunga in McLaren Vale. The wine has been matured for 20 months in Burgundian oak. Opaque crimson black colour with purple mauve hue. Perfumed nose of violets, blackpepper and spice followed by blackberry, cedar and earth. The palate is a touch less concentrated than the nose suggests, with the spice and blackpepper flavours remaining dominant. Fine grained dry tannins, followed by an aftertaste of blackpepper, plum, stewed fruit and a medicinal mint like characteristic which remains constrained and only adds to the complexity of the wine.
