1999 Stephen John Merlot

This is a very appealing young Merlot, produced from the Wood duck vineyard, and matured for a short time in French and American oak. Opaque crimson mauve colour. Delightful aroma of spice, mulberry fruit and violets with a truffle end note. The palate is very much fruit driven with the primary flavours of the mulberries exerting full influence and supported by spice and a touch of liquorice. Fine firm tannin structure, excellent length and balance, finishing with a long mulberry, liquorice and spice aftertaste. Cellar 3-5 years.
