Where's Glenoran we here you ask? It's in Western Australia between Manjimup, Nannup and Pemberton - still not sure? Its about a couple of hours south east of Margaret River. The vineyard belongs to an odd couple. Darelle Sinclair, who is a science teacher and graduate viticulturist, from Charles Sturt University, and John Healy, lawyer, jazz musician and graduate winemaker from the University of Adelaide. The Sinclair's have adopted the European practice of having their vines blessed and so each year the local Catholic priest, Father William Holmes is called to the task.John Healy's marketing process is tested in the label design and the way he goes about spreading myths about a legendary local tiger that no one else seems to have spotted. Drink enough wine and go wandering around Pemberton in the dark and we can tell you the feral cats take on a larger than life appearance.A well made wine from relatively young vines. Bright pale straw colour. Restrained nose with aromas of tropical fruit, confectionery and quince. The palate flavours are the light side with tropical fruit and quince to the fore, but lacks the power that the varietal so often is capable of delivering. Soft acid finish, with honey, apricot aftertaste. Cellar 1-2 years. Keep a watch out for the duo, a little more age on the vines and we might expect more powerful results.
