The Pinot Noir tasting has revealed quite a few deficiencies amongst producers of this varietal, and no doubt we will get our own share of emails and letters complaining that we have been too hard in our judgment. Let us say, that before you put pen to paper and start your protest, please buy a bottle of the 1999 Seresin Pinot Noir and benchmark it along the wine you feel so strongly about.A superb example of what the variety us capable of delivering. Hand picked grapes, destemmed and aged for 15 months in French barriques.Deep crimson colour, with mauve edges. Perfumed nose, very pronounced, with strong varietal character. Toasted oak is intermeshed with strawberry jam like nose with hints of rhubarb and liquorice. The palate does not disappoint. Strong spice and strawberry flavours again juxtaposed with toasted oak and liquorice. Outstanding length and persistence of flavour. Perfect balance. Fine grained silky tannins, followed by very long, lingering Pinot aftertaste. It was a joy to taste.
