The Saltram No. 1 Shiraz is the flagship wine for the Saltram label with the fruit being sourced from low yielding old vine vineyards in the Barossa Valley (85%) and the Eden Valley (15%). The 1999 vintage experienced a warm growing season which resulted in fully ripened Shiraz fruit with concentrated colour, flavour and tannin. The grapes were de-stemmed then fermented in traditional 8 tonne open fermenters, under ‘heading-down’ boards, pressed, then transferred into new and seasoned French (60%) and American (40%) oak and Hogsheads where it was matured for 24 months

Tasting Notes: A superb wine with great intensity and finesse which has already been awarded eight gold medals. Very deep crimson colour with crimson hue – holding its age very well. Superb lifted nose of confectionary and spice, followed by layers of cedar. The palate is generous and very spicy with lashings of white and black pepper sprinkled over a cedar, plum and spice background. Fine tannin structure with exceptionally long aftertaste of plum, spice, cedar and liquorice all-sorts.
