The 1999 vintage started with a wetter than normal spring. Below average yields combined with well-spaced summer rains and a warm, dry vintage period, resulting in good wine quality across all varieties. The fruit was sourced from the Goulburn Valley in Central Victoria and grown on both VSP and “T” trellis systems. Soil type was sandy loam and grey loam. The vines were spur pruned; mostly hand harvested and yields were approximately 4 - 6 tonnes per acre.A combination of vinimatic and static fermenters with heading down boards were used for temperature controlled fermentations of between 20º and 27ºc. After malolactic fermentation the wine was earth filtered then spent 15 months in 3-5 year old oak barrels. This wine displays characters of ripe plums, violets, black cherry, spice and a hint of vanilla from oak maturation. It is a soft rounded wine with excellent varietal definition and persistence. Alcohol: 13.5%
