The 1999 vintage started with a wetter than normal spring. Below average yields combined with well-spaced summer rains and a warm, dry vintage period, resulting in good wine quality across all varieties.A combination of Goulburn and King Valley vineyards provide fruit for this wine, to produce a combination of ripe fruit flavours and cooler climate characteristics. The vines were grown on Scott Henry and VSP trellis systems and spur pruned to produce 5 - 7 tonnes per acre. The soil type is mainly red sandy loam. Both vinimatics and potter fermenters were used, with temperature controlled fermentations between 20º and 27ºc. After pressing the juice underwent malolactic fermentation and then spent 15 months in 2-5 year old barrels. Final blend does not occur until after maturation.Cherry red in colour, this wines has aromas of blackcurrants and roses. On the palate there is blackcurrant with hints of vanilla. Alcohol: 13.5 %
