Premium Shiraz fruit was sourced from mature vines up to 120 years old grown on rich, volcanic soils on Mount Pleasant’s Old Hill and Old Paddock vineyards in the lower Hunter Valley. The Old Hill Vineyard was established in the 1880s by the King family; and the Old Paddock Vineyard was established in the 1920s by the late Maurice O’Shea.Record rainfall during winter and spring 1998 ensured strong grapevine growth and the prospect of generous yields. Cooler than normal weather from October through to December allowed for the production of more refined, delicate fruit flavours. The harvest was characterised by intermittent rain patches, which promoted healthy vines and sound, ripe fruit. The grapes were handpicked at optimum maturity in mid-February 1999.

Dark crimson red colour with purple hues. Abundant aroma of plums and mulberries with cedar and spice overtones. Superbly rich and concentrated with lovely mid-palate plum, berry and cedar flavours supported by silky tannins, which combine to form a persistent and harmonious finish. Has the weight and fruit structure to support cellaring for 15 to 20 years.
