Notes sourced from Grosset.

The 1999 Grosset Gaia is a blend of cabernet sauvignon (72%), cabernet franc (23%) and merlot (5%) which spent sixteen months in French oak from two of that country's best coopers: 45% of the barriques were new and the remainder one and two years old.

Perfumed ripe, dark plum and black cherry aromas with some cedary oak notes, supple and smoothly textured, this wine has a characteristic tight structure, and some cassis, black plum and dark chocolate flavours with spicy, briary overtones. These attractive primary fruit characters are made more complex by the savoury edge that the Gaia vineyard seems to impart. The overall impression is of power, richness and concentration with restraint. The 1999 Grosset Gaia is already tasting fuller and more generous than when first released last June: expect it to further improve over the next five years but consider cellaring for ten and reap the optimum reward.
