Robert Parker describes the wines at Domaine Albert Mann as being "of uncompromising richness and intensity, generally from small yields and old vines". He goes on to say that the Estate has made so many great wines over the last few years that they are not far from challenging the supremacy of such great Alsace Domaines as Zind Humbrecht and Weinbach. The Domaine produces approximately 140,000 bottles a year from 18 hectares, including holdings in the famous Grand Cru vineyards: Schlossberg, Furstentum, Steingrubler and Hengst. All the wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel vats, giving a wonderful fresh mineral quality in addition to the depth and power contributed by the low yields and old vines.
This is a Classic Alsatian Riesling which displays a degree of austerity yet remains balanced. Bright straw colour. The nose has subtle floral notes followed by a hint of spice and a subtle smoky end note. The acidity is evident on the palate yet whilst creating an austere impression manages to still support the fruit profile. Flavours of lemon and grapefruit emerge with a crisp acid finish and a long lemon spice aftertaste. The perfect wine for an oily fish dish.
Cellar 4-5 years. (2006-2007)
