1998 Woodstock The Stocks Shiraz

Just when we thought we had seen the last of the Great 1998 vintage reds, another emerges, and does not disappoint. Produced from low yielding, century old Shiraz vines at Woodstock, the wine was matured in mostly new American and French oak hogsheads for over two years, with only the best barrels being selected for the final blend. Totally opaque, black crimson colour. Perfumed nose of dark chocolate, liquorice all sorts and violets. The palate is filled with opulent, ripe fruit flavours over a background of exotic spices. Outstanding length and persistence, with flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, and black pepper meshed with velvet smooth tannins. Very long aftertaste of dark chocolate and mixed spice. Cellar years 4–5 years.
