1998 Stonehaven Shiraz

Outstanding Value for money wines at a quaffing price are becoming increasingly difficult to find. International demand and the pressure of a weak Australian dollar are making even our top end wines appear to be bargain basement. We were very pleased with the quality of this wine, having been less than enthusiastic about the previous vintage. Produced from grapes grown at Padthaway, Coonawarra and Wrattonbully, this is a big wine!Totally opaque crimson mauve colour. Intense aroma of ripe plums, vanilla, confectionery and spice with hints of blackberry and liquorice. On the palate the flavours can be found in abundance. Liquorice, spice, plum and cherry are integrated with an earthy back palate flavour. Excellent weight and length, fine grained, perfectly balanced tannins, slightly warm finish, followed by a long aftertaste of plum, stewed fruit and spice. Cellar 3-4 years.
