The Saltram Classic Range showcases the world's six classic grape varieties. Reflecting the best flavours and qualities of each grape the wines represent Saltram's total dedication to quality winemaking since 1859.Selected fruit from some of the best Semillon vineyards in the Barossa Valley have been used for this wine. This wine is richer and bolder in flavour than the 1997 vintage and has extra weight on the mid-palate as a result of the slightly higher alcohols - a result of the warm days and cool nights of the extended ripening season in 1998. Some of the wine was fermented in one year old French oak hogsheads in order to impart extra complexity in the classic Barossa style with the remainder fermented at cool temperatures so as to retain all the varietal freshness of Semillon. This 100% Barossa Valley Semillon is a classic example of young, fresh, crisp Australian white wine. Pale straw yellow colour. The wine has lifted varietal fruit characters of citrus fruit on the nose complemented by toasty barrel ferment characters. On the palate the wine is rich and full flavoured with a creamy texture. There are toasty oak flavours in the mouth plus well balanced acidity. Cellar 2-4 years. 12.4% alcohol volume.
