Notes sourced from Southern Cross Wines.
The Saltram Classic range showcases the world's six classic grape varieties. Reflecting the best flavours and qualities of each grape the wine represent Saltram's total dedication to quality winemaking since 1859.The fruit for this wine has been sourced from vineyards in McLaren Vale, the Hunter Valley and Barossa Valley. The fruit was picked quite early in the season to retain freshness and a good level of bracing acidity. 1998 provided a good crop of high quality fruit. The wines are fermented in large, cool stainless steel tanks. There was no oak contact which also works in favour of varietal definition. This 100% Sauvignon Blanc is a classic example of young, fresh, crisp Australian white wine. Pale yellow colour with green tinges the wine has lifted varietal fruit characters of gooseberry, pineapple and melon on the nose. There is a hint of the classic Sauvignon Blanc herbaceousness but this is not overstated or in any way dominant. On the palate the wine is as all young Sauvignon Blanc should be - fresh and lively with strong fruity flavours and a clean, zesty acid finish. 12.1% alcohol volume.
