Bottle Aged Riesling has become an obsession for many wine lovers who either buy young wines to cellar or pursue ‘museum releases’. Time bestows a unique character to Riesling, so long as the acid structure is there to start with. The fresh aromatics gradually develop into layers of toast and honey as well as that distinct kerosene quality not that Riesling drinkers are a bunch of fuel addicts; rather, this ‘kero’ quality is desirable and is enhanced by the lemon & lime fruit.
An outstanding example of aged Riesling. Bright deep straw colour with green hue. Superb aged Riesling nose with classic notes of honey, toast, spice and ‘kero’ emerging, showing wonderful development. Mouthfilling palate, with flavours of honey, toast and just a trace of residual sweetness occurring. Excellent length and palate weight. Very long aftertaste of lime, lemon, ‘kero’, toast and honey.
Cellar 3-4 years (2007-2008)
The bouquet is literally jam-packed with apple, lime, mineral and toast, the palate similarly rich and flooded with flavour; great balance and complexity. Top 100 2003. RATING 95 DRINK 2008 $24
