The price of Pinot Noir is coming down, however, that's not to say that the quality has gone up. It appears that the 'hole' in the under $20 Pinot Noir market is being filled with heavy cropped young vine pinot. The resultant wines are light easy drinking styles but without great structure or power.Medium weight, crimson red colour. The nose is a very pleasant surprise, uplifted fresh, macerated cherry and strawberry fruit aromas. The palate does not live up to the lively expectation of the nose - being light and rather diluted, with a cherry liquorice flavour. Soft acidity with a rather over stewed, slightly decaying fruit after flavour. A commercial quaffer.
RETASTED 15/05/1999: Light weight, brick red colour. Spicy, cherry and stewed fruit aromas with just a hint of raisin and strawberry. The palate is light and drops off a little. Dilute, yet pleasant. Soft tannins, supported by a spicy strawberry aftertaste. A very good Pinot quaffer. Drink now.
