Chardonnay grown in the warm climates of the Sunraysia region form the backbone of this wine. Mildara have many of the best vineyards in this area having been in the Mildura district for more than a century. The wine was made at the Merbein winery of Mildara with the emphasis on the retention of fruit character. It underwent a cool ferment in stainless steel tanks to retain this fresh varietal flavour. There was a small amount of oak fermentation to add some complexity to the wine. After fermentation the wine was kept cool in refrigerated tanks before bottling and release.Chardonnay is the most popular grape variety in Australia and it is grown in virtually every viticultural region in the country. Its versatility and adaptability to a multitude of climates make it the ultimate all-purpose white variety. The Mildara Chardonnay comes from several regions throughout south-eastern Australia. The warmer regions have supplied the fullness of the fruit character and the slightly cooler regions have given the wine an element of finesse. The wine is medium bodied with some lifted varietal Chardonnay characters on the nose coupled with a hint of oak. This is a lovely fruit driven wine showing lovely peach and melon characters on the palate. The wine has a soft finish and good, lively acid. Drink now. 12.9% alcohol volume.
