1998 Maglieri Merlot

Deep crimson colour with mauve edge. The nose displays aroomas of spice, mulberry, plum and confectionary. The palate is relatively short with earthy plum and spice flavours dominant and the acid levels appear a bit on the high side. Firm dry tannin structure, which overshadows the subtle mulberry fruit. Given that McLaren Vale is capable of producing some very impressive Merlots, this is not a great example. Cellar 3-4 years.
